Spring 2010: Ettusais Jelly Gloss in BE-4, PK-6 and PK-8

Ettusais revamped their gloss line this spring and since I like Ettusais´glosses very much I picked up 3 of the new version of the Jelly Gloss.

Packaging-wise they didn´t change much as only the tubes are a bit longer and slimmer now. The box looks a bit edgier now with a face printed on =)


The Jelly Glosses have a spatula applicator just as the majority of glosses from Shiseido brands seem to have nowadays (IPSA, Ettusais, Maquillage, Integrate...). I really like this kind of applicator as it distributes the color evenly.


The texture is quite thick and sticky so the glosses offer mirror shine and last for a good amount of time. If you prefer lightweight and slick glosses then you should probably consider something else =)
The pigment is sheer so the glosses don´t look significantly different when applied (I have very pink lips to start with though!)


The glosses are not scented, contain 5g and retail for 1300 Yen + tax. I got mine from Facial-Shop were the cost around US$18/each incl. registered mail from Hong Kong (they arrived very fast, too... just a week from when I ordered. I love fast sellers and the Hong Kong postal service!)


As you can see I picked my usual kind of colors lol! I guess I must have the same colors over and over again but I just can´t resist new lippies, no matter if I have dozens of similar hues already lol!

BE-4: A milky peach nude with fine shimmer.


PK-6: This is sort of a duo-chrome on me. It looks either peachy or cool light pink depending from the angle the light hits. My least favorite color though as it can look blotchy and uneven.


PK-8: As many of my regular readers might expect this is my favorite color =) A pinky beige color which looks like my lips but a hue deeper.


All in all I am very happy with the glosses as they are of great quality and quite affordable.

Spring 2010: Ettusais Melty Touch Rouge in Beige

I reviewed this Melty Touch Rouge lipstick from Ettusais in the "Rose" color but still owing you the review of the beige one. Since I have been very sick the previous week I didn´t wear makeup for several days in a row so finally was able to wear it and review it.


You can read about my overall opinion and color choices in my previous review (click here). Btw to avoid confusion: The inner core is not soft or drippy like in the ad. It´s a solid clear gloss stick with shimmer.

When I received the beige color I wasn´t sure if I should try it at all and I was tempted to list it in my sales blog but curiosity won me over so I tried it.


While it looks like a golden beige in the tube it´s actually a very nice light pinky beige.
I really like the color a lot as it is very neutral and easy wear for me. I definitely have many colors like this but I am just digging that clear gloss core =P

Spring 2010: Ettusais Melty Touch Rouge in Rose

I had to totally get one of the new Ettusais Melty Touch Rouges when I saw this ad:


Ah, that luscious gloss dripping from the lippy just looked freaking amazing (yes yes, I am such a sucker for such things!)
In addition I just love lipsticks with some core as it just looks cool!


I picked the Melty Touch Rouge in Rose (other colors are pink, red, orange and beige... I got beige and will review soon, too!). It looked like my kind of color (and yes, I probably have 769870998678564 similar lippies in my stash already!)

The Melty Touch Rouge comes in a cute small tube and a box which seems to resemble some sort of candy packaging or so?
The cover is clear so you can see the lippy color without opening the tube.


The lippy is fragrance-free and contains "Hyper Gloss Oil" (whatever that stuff is).
The core seems to be some clear pink-tinted solid jelly with small glitter bits and the lipstick is your standard slightly shimmery lippy.


When I first applied this I was a little disappointed as I somehow expected a more slick feeling however the result came out really pretty, a soft glossy color with a nice feel to it I am all in all happy with this lippy even though it´s nothing outstanding.
This is on the creamy but slightly hard side and has decent lasting-power and a sheer finish.


Rose is a pretty cool light pink. It came out actually a bit lighter than I expected.
Retails for 1800 Yen plus tax. I got mine from Ichibankao but Gooddealer lists this item, too!

Spring 2009: Ettusais Sweet Marble Collection

Ettusais is pretty much a so-so brand for me. They have some really nice items but e.g. their eyeshadows are usually a big fail. Also they tend to have brighter colors (esp. lipsticks) that are harder to pull off for me.


For Spring 2009 they came up with 3 cute marbled glosses and 3 colors of a swirly blusher, all LE. The collection is called Sweet Marble.

I got 2 items from the collection from eBay. I ended up paying a little less than retail (incl. shipping) so I am pretty content with the price.

I got:

This is a cute little product. It's a rather small blush pan in a jar. Under the blush the applicator (a sponge) is hidden.
The blush consists of various shades of warm pink and is slightly shimmery.


The pigment is sheer-medium as you should be used to from Japanese brands.
The color is a fresh warm pink perfect to warm up my complexion a little.


It's nothing super special but looks cute and is a good dupe for the limited cheek color in the Paul & Joe Xmas kit in 001.

-Sweet Marble Gloss:


The glosses from Ettusais are generally rather nice, sticky and long-lasing with decent pigment. The Sweet Marble Gloss in PK5 consists of a coral pink gloss without shimmer and stripes of white shimmery gloss which mixes with the pink color when you pull out the wand.


The applicator is a spatula (my favorite type of applicator).
The overall color is a soft not overly bright coral pink with medium pigment. It's only slightly shimmery but very glossy and long-lasting due to the thick sticky texture.

The other colors are orange gloss and blusher and a beige gloss and blusher. I really like the look of the beige colors!


All in all a nice little collection and definitely worth purchasing.

Ettusais Strong Separate Mascara & Lip Gloss

I don't own really lots of items from Ettusais and I am not super impressed with the brand in general but the and the Strong Separate Mascara and Lip Glosses are quite nice items.

Strong Separate Mascara:


I am a big fan of comb mascaras. My HG mascaras both have a comb applicator as it's much easier to separate my lashes with a comb and to reach the very roots of my lashes.

I think that thickening formulas work really best with comb applicators unless I want a natural finish (which I am personally not liking). Combs just can't deposit so much color on the lashes so if I want decent drama the formula should be volumizing.


The Strong Separate Mascara has an applicator with 2 different sides. On one side there is what they call a coil. To me it's just a riffled plastic piece. The other side has a very fine long-toothed comb that's really perfect to separate the lashes.
I achieve best results when I first use the coil side to coat my lashes and then comb with the comb side.


The result is really pretty. It gives me a sort of soft feathery lash look with enough volume and length.
The mascara is waterproof and retails for somewhere around 1500 Yen.
I have the black color. I don't know if there are other colors available.

Lip Gloss:


I got a few Lip Glosses from Ettusais before but didn't open them as I knew the colors won't suit me at all. I can't wear bright oranges so they were no-gos for me (they were freebies so I won't complain too much).
Recently I found a lot of 3 glosses on eBay for US$12 which is a steal as each of them has a retail price of about US$15.
Even though I knew there is 1 color in the lot I wouldn't use (yes, an orange one) I really liked the other 2 colors so I snatched the lot up.


I love that Ettusais Lip Glosses come with flexible clear spatula applicators. For the rather thick and sticky (and long-lasting formula) the spatula does a much better job in spreading the gloss than the regular fuzzy doe-foot applicator you find in regular glosses.
Lots of Shiseido-owned brands have those spatulas (Ettusais, PN, Maquillage, Inoui ID, IPSA and even Integrate but in a twist-pen style) and I wish more brands would use them as they're really practical especially when I want to wear gloss on top of lipstick as cleaning the spatula is a breeze.

I got 3 colors in the lot: BE2, PK1 and PK4.
BE2: A pretty beige with lots of pigment.
PK1: Sheer shimmery pink
PK4: I wonder why they labeled this as a pink? It's clearly orange. I didn't open this and don't plan on using this.
The glosses aren't flavored or scented (yay!)

Overall it's definitely worth picking up a Strong Separate Mascara or a Lip Gloss if you have the chance to.

Ettusais Fall 2008: Aquatic Shimmer

Ever since I saw the new Ettusais (a Shiseido drugstore brand) collection for fall 2008 on my friend's blog Rouge Deluxe I was interested in trying some of the items out as they looked quite promising.


The collection consists of 3 nail colors, 3 lip color duos and 2 eyeshadow trios.
I purchased the eyeshadows and glosses from one of my favorite eBay sellers for a bit below the original retail prices.

Aquatic Shimmer Gloss: (from top: beige, pink, red)


This comes in 3 color duos: Beige, pink and red. Each duo has a lip color (like liquid lipstick) on one side and a clear glitter gloss on the other side.
The liquid lipstick side is quite pigmented and feels very light when I am applying it. It dries to a powdery finish, similar to those 2-step long-lasting lip colors (which I haven't seen from Japanese brands before btw) but without the extremely drying feeling.
When it is set then it doesn't really transfer and can be topped with the gloss coat. I have to say it doesn't seem to be 100% kiss-proof it's a very long-lasting lip color duo and leaves minimal stains.
The finish of the color is a pearly velvet. Not really shimmery and not glossy. The gloss contains glitters and is very glossy and slightly sticky like the normal range of Ettusais lip glosses so it gives a very shiny and gleaming finish.
Beige: Light peachy nude beige and a transparent gloss with green and orange glitters.
Pink: Orange pink/clear gloss with pink and green glitters.
Red: Reddish brown/clear gloss with ivory and green glitters.
Please note that all colors darken on lips after application of the gloss.

Overall a nice item
Retails for 1680 Yen for 9g

Aquatic Shimmer Eye Color:


I was mostly interested in the trio in color #I as it's the cooler-toned combination but finally decided to get both palettes.
I have tried Ettusais eyeshadows before and they're lovely and quite silky with sheer-medium pigment.
Each palette contains 1 cream and 2 powder shadows.
I am disappointed. The cream shadow is super sheer and very greasy which means it will crease if used as a base on me. It's not really pigmented enough to make a good brow-bone highlighter so it's pretty useless.
One of the powder shadows is very sheer and glittery. A combination I am not fond of. It's very silky but doesn't show up well.
The darkest shadow has good pigment and a slightly shimmery finish with a silky texture so this one is fine.
Please keep in mind that these are my first thoughts after swatching the shadows but sometimes the result on the eyes is different.

#I: Sheer pink cream shadow, silver glitter shadow and navy pearl shadow.


#II: Cream-colored cream shadow, golden beige and warm medium shimmery brown.


Retails for 2625 Yen for 3.6g.

All in all I am not terribly impressed... this was the first Ettusais collection in long time that caught my fancy and know I know why I wasn't really into that brand before. They do nice lipglosses and the eyeshadow singles are worth a 2nd look but the Aquatic eyeshadow trios are definitely no must-haves.
